Having grown up in a close-knit Italian family, our Executive Director, Tony, had the privilege of living with his grandparents and witnessing their later years. This experience deeply shaped his admiration for older adults and fueled his passion for supporting them, which ultimately influenced his educational and career path.
Tony earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Arizona University and his MBA from Western International University. He is licensed in Arizona as an Assisted Living Facilities Manager (ALFM) and is also a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA).
Tony is driven by a passion for serving the community. He finds joy in bringing smiles to the faces of residents and feels a deep responsibility to provide both staff and residents with a safe, happy, and healthy environment in which to live and work.
Outside of his professional life, Tony enjoys spending time outdoors with his two children, A.J. and Cosette, as well as his two dogs, Wick and Bear.
When families have been touched by dementia, Kari is the one who introduces them to our community, answering the many questions that arise when Memory Care is needed. Her own family has been touched by dementia, which is why she’s passionate about helping others through this phase of life. Much of her career has been spent in college admissions roles, so she naturally loves meeting people, giving tours, and assisting any way possible. Using her skills at Copper Canyon has been her most fulfilling role yet. “There is no greater joy than seeing a resident happy and smiling.”
Kari is married and has three children in their 20s. In her free time she loves to be in nature, disconnected from technology, either axe throwing, hiking or camping.
As Life Enrichment Director, Melissa brings purpose and fun to each day at Copper Canyon. She manages our activity calendar, social events, games, and even helps with FaceTime or Zoom calls for families to stay in touch with their loved one. Her own family members all work in the health field, so when she tried a caregiving role eight years ago she immediately found a job she loved. She had a knack for leading activities and quickly grew into that role. “It brings me joy to be able to create special moments.”
Melissa enjoys creating special moments with her own three kids, and enjoying the outdoors.
Shaelyn handles all of our billing and administrative questions, but she doesn’t just love the business side of senior living. Her favorite moments at Copper Canyon are one-on-one time with residents and families, and enjoying simple, beautiful moments with them. Her own grandparents played a key role in her upbringing, and she’s always enjoyed time around seniors. After graduating from Arizona, she knew a career in senior living would be fulfilling. Shaelyn grew up in rural Connecticut and has always enjoyed hiking. In her free time, she explores the trails in Tucson.
Albert is responsible for keeping Copper Canyon a safe, comfortable, and clean property where seniors love to live. He’s worked for more than 22 years as a Maintenance Director and can fix just about anything, from A/C to electrical systems to plumbing. Even simple things bring joy. Recently Albert helped a resident whose doorknob wouldn’t lock or unlock, and that simple fix brought out a big smile and they said it felt like home here. Albert feels at home, too, when he’s helping seniors. His own home is full with four kids, two cats, and a wonderful wife. His favorite hobby is golf.
